Please consider the following as you apply:
- Virtual, In-Person, or Hybrid. An externship can be virtual, in-person, or both. Some judicial officers are having virtual-only externships or in-person-only externships (indicated below by "VIRTUAL ONLY" or "IN-PERSON ONLY.") If there is no indication, the judicial officer is allowing externs to decide whether to participate virtually, in-person, or both.
- What interests you? The Court has five main departments: Civil / Tax, Criminal, Family, Juvenile, and Probate. Approximately every 3-5 years, a judicial officer will rotate to a different department. If a judicial officer is rotating, their current department is listed, followed by their post-rotation department (e.g., "Civil / Family"). Rotations occur in late June / early July. Consider which department interests you most, but understand that your judicial officer and the Externship Committee can help you find observation opportunities in other departments.
- Location, Location, Location. If you are going to be in-person, please remember there are five separate campuses: Downtown, Durango, Northeast, Northwest, and Southeast. Certain departments are located at each location. The locations below indicate what type of externships are available at that location with additional observation opportunities listed (e.g., "Probate, with observations in Family"). If a judicial officer is rotating, their current location is listed, followed by their post-rotation location (e.g., "Downtown/ NE").
